🏃♂️ Running 🏖️ Ocean 🐾 Wildlife 🌲 Forest 🏖️ Surfing 🏖️ CoastKnysna is a town located in the Western Cape Province in South Africa. Knysna is a must for those who are exploring the Garden Route. It is surrounded by forests, with landscapes always more impressive than the others.
During a trip to Knysna, you can visit the highest point of The Heads, which offers a splendid view of the lagoon, it is really worth it. Watching the ocean rush against the rocks and mix with the water of the lagoon is a wonderful sight. At sunset, the cliffs take on pink or orange colors while the watercolor gradually darkens.
The lush forests of Knysna are also a must for nature lovers and walkers. They cover a total area of 149498,76 acres (60,500 hectares). For example, you can go to Jubilee Creek for a picnic along a stream, and a short walk will take you to a waterfall where it is possible to swim. The Circles in the Forest trail is accessible to all, with a 1.8 miles (3 km) option or a longer 5.6 miles (9 km) one, and offers a total immersion in the forest and frog-filled streams, which you can cross thanks to small wooden bridges. We also recommend the Garden of Eden located near Plettenberg Bay. In addition to the incredible flora, the forest is also home to an abundance of wildlife, such as leopards, wild pigs, baboons, monkeys, badgers, bushbucks and duikers, and an elephant that is the last survivor of the herd that lived in the forest. Many birds also live in the forest.
Take a moment to walk around Knysna's waterfront where you will find small stores, cafés, and restaurants along the marina. The harbor is a great place to relax and enjoy the view of the boats while exploring the town. The oyster lovers will be able to taste those of the lagoon, which are very famous in the country.
The city offers many visits to nature reserves to be in contact with the animals. If you love nature, we highly recommend a half-day trip to the Featherbed Nature Reserve across the lagoon from the town. Knysna Elephant Park is a private reserve away from the city. You can feed and pet the elephants (if they agree), the setting is sumptuous, just like the rest of Knysna.
Cape Town and Knysna are 6 hours away by car. The bus takes 8 hours, while the plane from Plettenberg Bay takes between 3 and 4 hours, it remains the fastest solution but the most expensive one.
